The Monstera 'Siltepecana' is a captivating climber that offers two distinct looks in one plant. Known for its shimmering juvenile foliage, it is a versatile choice for plant enthusiasts, whether you prefer a cascading vine in a hanging basket or a climbing centerpiece that develops dramatic fenestrations (holes) as it matures.
Native to the humid tropical forests of Mexico and Central America. Features small, lance-shaped leaves with a stunning bluish-gray and silver metallic sheen over dark green veins. If allowed to climb, the leaves transform into large, leathery, dark green hearts that eventually develop inner fenestrations, much like the classic Monstera deliciosa.
As a member of the Araceae family, it produces a spathe and spadix flower. However, it is exceptionally rare for this plant to bloom indoors. The "flower" is actually a modified leaf surrounding a spike of tiny florets, typical of most aroids.
-
Bright, indirect sunlight. It can tolerate medium light, but bright light is necessary to maintain the silver variegation and encourage the plant to reach its mature, fenestrated stage.
Moderate. Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. It prefers consistent moisture but is susceptible to root rot if left in standing water.
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix. A combination of potting soil, orchid bark, perlite, and charcoal works best to mimic its natural epiphytic habitat.
60°F to 85°F (16°C – 29°C). It thrives in standard household temperatures but should be protected from temperatures below 50°F.
-
9b-11. Typically kept as an indoor perennial in most regions.
